Perfect six for Pinatubo in Darley Dewhurst
Ace two-year-old Pinatubo extended his ideal career record with victory from the Darley Dewhurst Stakes.
Trained by Charlie Appleby and commissioned by William Buick, the odds-on favourite (1/3) was scoring for the second time in the highest level following last months Group One demolition project at the Vincent OBrien National Stakes at the Curragh.
Having his initial run on Newmarkets famous Rowley Mile, the son of Shamardal was visually less impressive on this occasion however showed a fantastic attitude when compelled to dig deep through Aidan OBriens Arizona (14/1), who was only third in the Curragh but got to within 2 lengths with this particular occasion.
Third went into the assumed OBrien first-string Wichita (7/2) who had a very clear shot at front two around the stands rail under Ryan Moore.
Appleby stated on ITV Racing:I am relieved, so we could all attempt to be calm and composed beforehand but when you get a horse like that… we have all seen it with Enable last week, and it definitely means a great deal to the general public.
Thankfully this horse has gone and done it kept the dream alive for winter.
