Ace two-year-old Pinatubo extended his career record to six wins with victory from the Darley Dewhurst Stakes.
Founded by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, the odds-on favourite (1/3) was scoring for the second time at the maximum level after a months Group One demolition job at the Vincent OBrien National Stakes at the Curragh.
Having his original run on Newmarkets famous Rowley Mile, the son of Shamardal was less impressive on this event however showed a good attitude when forced to dig deep through Aidan OBriens Arizona (14/1), who was only third at the Curragh but got to within 2 lengths on this particular occasion.
Third went to the assumed OBrien first-string Wichita (7/2) who had a very clear shot at the front two over the stands rail under Ryan Moore.
Appleby said on ITV Conclusion:I am relieved, we can all attempt to be calm and written beforehand but once you get a horse like this… we have all seen it with Enable a week, and it clearly means a great deal to the public.
Thankfully this horse has gone and done it and kept the dream alive for the winter.
