England captain Joe Root stated levelling the Ashes in 2-2 round off a summer that’s been a”huge success” for English cricket.

“What a summer of cricket it’s been,” said .
England’s World Cup final victory over New Zealand came after a super more than had been tied, although, at Headingley, Stokes played one of those all-time fantastic innings to lead the hosts to their highest Test run-chase, the final 76 runs forthcoming into a last-wicket stand with Jack Leach.
“It’s been phenomenal,” added that the Yorkshire batsman. “That World Cup was incredible, for it to complete how it did, designed for excellent viewing – not just the England games, but around the board.
“It was backed up by this evenly matched Ashes series. Support that was brilliant blessed us throughout along with the cricket was gripping. It was tough to be involved in at times, especially if we were on the incorrect end of it.
“It’s been a huge victory for English cricket and a fantastic chance to spring up the game forward in this nation.”
England’s defeat in the fourth Test at Old Trafford ensured the show could not be lost by Australia and would retain the Ashes.
But, defending a record which has seen them never lose a house series to Australia since 2001, England levelled the series at The Oval with a victory.
“A 2-2 score looks a hell of a lot better than 3-1,” said Root, who has failed to win either of the Ashes series as captain. “It’s probably a fair result.
“There’ve been instances when we have been out skilled and we’ve been sloppy for the odd hour here and there, that has cost usbut we have always fought quite difficult.
“Hopefully this will be a huge stepping stone and beginning point from where people can kick on as a group.”
And Root replicated his desire to still be in charge when England attempt to win the urn on the tour Australia at 2021-22, stating he wants to become captain for the”long haul”.
“I am distressed to carry this team forward,” he explained. “I am in a very privileged position to be captain of the Test team and I will do everything I to can to get us well prepared for moving down there and hopefully doing something very special.”
England all-rounder Ben Stokes:”This was a bizarre feeling in the end. We are extremely happy with what we managed to perform in this match but we still couldn’t win the Ashes.
“In the start of summer everyone was so excited about what we had ahead, now the summer came to an end it’s been unbelievable to be a part of as an individual participant.
“I really don’t think you can ever look back and ask what if we had done this or done different. It’s been a wonderful series that has ebbed and flowed and that is showed at the end result. I think it’s a fair result between two evenly matched and competitive teams since Ashes cricket is and everybody was treated to a series that is excellent.
“I’ll return on Headingley in a few years’ time with fond memories likely, but I would swap it winning to the Ashes .”
Asked if Joe Root is the Ideal man to take England forward, Stokes said:”100 percent”
England bowler Jofra Archer, who was known as man of the game after taking 6-62 in the first innings:”In the minute I have set an England shirt on it’s been enjoyable cricket. I’m glad we could draw on the collection. Jeez… bowling at Steve Smith was a job. I’m glad to see the back of him”
Former England captain Michael Vaughan:”Steve Smith has been pleasure to watch. From where he had been Edgbaston, that innings was particular. His team were gone 122-8 and the way that he played with control and shepherded Peter Siddle. This was one of the Test innings. He has been a pleasure to watch.
“With England, I believe we might observe a shift in strategy the Evaluation team chooses. The players will miss the games if they’re playing all 3 formats. The Test team needs just a small amount of TLC and Joe Root is the skipper to carry them forward.”
