Nemanja Matic says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might need to maintain himself accountable if Manchester United don’t compete because of the Premier League title.
Matic, that came at 2017 in Old Trafford from Chelsea, has played only 22 minutes this year after making one appearance as a substitute from Southampton.
United, who last won the league title in 2013, are in the table following four games and trail league leaders Liverpool by seven points.
“The trainer must opt for the team which will fight to the title and when he does not win, he also bears the duty,” Matic told reporters before Serbia’s European Qualifier from Portugal on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Premier League.
“I have been in football for a long time, I’ve played nearly all the matches for all the clubs in the last ten decades. In order for me to perform, one needed to sit the seat and take that fact, so do I now.”
Solskjaer has chosen 22-year-old Scott McTominay to associate Paul Pogba in midfield in United’s first four matches and he’s determined to prove the Norwegian erroneous although Matic respects the conclusion.
“In the first two or three games he picked the group without me,” Matic added. “I work as hard as I can. We honor the decision, it is up to me also to put me back to where I really belong and to show him that he was wrong.
“There is not any issue. I told him I disagreed with him that he had to pick the team.”
United return after the international break when they sponsor Brendan Rodgers’ unbeaten Leicester at Old Trafford.
Paul Scholes does not believe the side of Solskjaer can compete to the Premier League title in the next two decades.
Even the England along with ex-United midfielder considers results this season reveal they remain in the Premier League behind last season’s top four.
He said:”I believe you almost have to compose United off for the subsequent two years – this team – until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has cleared what out he wants; has four or five transfer windows”
