James Anderson is”hungry” to keep playing cricket for England as he plans a return to the group for their winter excursions of New Zealand and South Africa using the seamer fighting to return to full fitness from his continuing calf injury.
The all-time leading Evaluation wicket-taker of england suffered the injury whilst playing the County Championship for Lancashire and he had been still fit to play at Edgbaston, he managed to bowl four overs.
Anderson stepped up his comeback by playing his county XI side from the lead up to the fourth Test at his home ground Old Trafford but was unable to overcome the H injury because he was ruled out for the series.
“I’m just about getting over the disappointment on being in a position to play a part in this show and looking ahead to what I could do in the future,” Anderson told Sky Sports.
“I am definitely hungry and eager to keep playing for England. Until I got wounded in an annoying time I have been bowling and I ever have, I was in good shape and bowled quite a good deal for Lancashire at the beginning of the season.
“I’d enjoy looking too far ahead, I only need to receive my elbows sorted and look to another series to see if I could get myself match to New Zealand and otherwise, then South Africa.
“Who knows how long I could play for, so long as I will keep myself healthy and maintain bowling well then I want to keep playing as much as possible.”
Meanwhile, the speculation whether Joe Root must stay as England captain surfaced after Australia triumph saw them keep the Ashes.
However, Anderson dismissed the thoughts of replacing Root, insisting the batsman gets the power to push the side once a head coach is made.
“I believe Joe is the ideal person for the project,” Anderson explained. “He has worked hard to drive this group in the perfect direction throughout the last couple of decades.
“That has been hard with changes in staff in the group, like Alastair Cook retiring, and trying to find the right balance of team to go ahead but I think he has done a great job.
“The key with this Test aspect for Joe Root and the coach who simplifies Trevor Bayliss is that they have the identical vision for your group and drives them in the right direction.”
