World Grand Prix Darts Outright Tips & Preview
The 2019 World Grand Prix is a few days away and the championship looks wide open. The format of this important, in having to hit on a double to start the leg has lent itself to lots of upsets over recent years. This coupled with it being best of 3 sets in the initial round means there is a shock or two on.
There are currently enjoying some darts and youre able to make a case for a host of the names in the championship. The fact is currently telling you of his form recently and just how receptive it is. Most say naturally MVG was likely to win and we might return at the conclusion of the week, he is the best player on the planet. However, with the format and games at the beginning, I would look at a few at larger prices.
Taking a look at the attraction, there is no easy half of it to be on. Having said that, but the bottom half is certainly harder. There are a few yummy looking first round games, such as Rob Cross v Mensur Suljovic and Gerwyn Price v Dave Chisnall. Chizzy got to the Gibraltar Darts Trophy final, losing out to Krzysztof Ratajski who finds himself last week. A nine darter was struck on by chisnall long the method and it seems like his darts are helping him. Prior to the draw, I liked the look of Cost, who is only getting better, but the form of Chizzy would stress me. I am not backing any bets for the tournament in the bottom half of the draw.
I am looking at the best half of the attraction for my own selections. YesMichael Van Gerwen is in this half but hes beatable. You never know in the Grand Prix although he really must undergo his first two matches. He could face fellow countryman Jeffery de Zwaan in the second round that beat him in the 2018 World Matchplay. Whoever makes it through that part of the draw??I expect to confront my first selection JAMES WADE (best cost 25-1).
The two-time Grand Prix winner clearly adores this championship. Needing to begin Wade awarded his record. Its a clich?? however he is a clutch player. Hell slip legs from nowhere. Since the birth of his son he appears to have become much more relaxed in the oche. His return to the Premier League saw him end in third place.
He reached two semi-finals in New Zealand Masters and the European Matchplay. He followed up with his PDC title of the year last month in the Players Championship in Barnsley. He arrives at Dublin in powerful form and also with happy memories . Having a good enough attraction I think Wade is marginally on the aspect at 25/1. His match against John Henderson will be no pushover, as MVG very well understands following his shock 2017 exit to the Scotsman. If Wade can get beyond that having some momentum behind him I can see the Machine going far in the tournament.
My next wager is MICHAEL SMITH (best price 22-1). Surely that important is only round the corner? He keeps knocking on the door at events that are big and you would think he will go all the way later or sooner. It was another impressive run at a big for the Bully Boy although he was at the World Matchplay final against Cross. He had some early exits in the Players Championship at Barnsley last month that might be a factor supporting his price. This doesnt disturb me as Smith always seems to devote a fantastic run at the events.
His ability is simply magnificent and when he can land his doubles he can defeat anyone. He can be his own worst enemy occasionally and can be such a frustrating player to watch. He works himself up a lot over missed opportunities that he carries to the next leg as opposed to simply forgetting about it. When he is on song hes a pleasure to watch.
Hes got a quarter of the attraction. Obviously no games are easy but a participant of Smiths calibre should get Simon Whitlock and then Joe Cullen or even Ian White in his first two games. I imagine he is more determined than ever to eventually win that major he deserves. He has all of the ability on the planet and I dont doubt hell go on to win several majors in his career. This week provides a perfect opportunity.
