Open de France: Ryan Fox and George Coetzee tied at the top on day one
Ryan Fox and George Coetzee equally fired six-under 65s to share the first-round lead.
With tournament golf returning to Le Golf National for the first time because Europes memorable Ryder Cup success 54 weeks ago, Fox and Coetzee ended day one with a one-shot lead over a group such as Richie Ramsay, but defending champion Alex Noren faces a battle to earn the cut following an erratic 72.
Coetzee made the most of the good scoring conditions from the first session, while in addition, he defied the joys of seeing playing-partner and 2012 winner Marcel Siem disqualify himself following the front nine when he had been advised hed incur a 10-shot penalty for lifting and putting his ball twice, wrongly believing preferred lies were in performance.
The South African birdied the first two holes made three in a row from the first time, ahead of his only bogey of the day at 17 cost him the lead, and he also picked up further shots at the 10th and 15th.
Jordan Smith appeared to exceed Coetzee after he made another in 10 before errors hampered him fading down the stretch birdied the first six holes, and Fox proved the player from the starters that were later to arrive at six under.
Fox, son of All Blacks legend Grant, restricted a external 31 with four birdies in five holes and, after downing a birdie at 12 with his lone blemish in the next, he got into a share of the lead with a different great putt on the 16th green.

The Kiwi gave a probability of an eighth birdie of the round after he knocked his second at the final to himself, but he allowed a lot of rest and had to settle for a tie at the top together with Coetzee.
Ramsay carded six birdies against a single dropped shot in his 66 that was solid because he looks to cement his position in the field for the Airlines set next season, the Scot arriving in Paris ranked 60th to Dubai.
Ramsay shares third with 2012, with Kurt Kitayama along with Benjamin Hebert Ryder Cup star Nicolas Colsaerts one further back following the Belgian closed a 67 out in the ninth.
Smith was on 59 alert shortly after famous putting coach Phil Kenyon tweeted he wouldfloat the station nude to congratulate anybody breaking 60 in Le Golf National.
The Englishman was seven under after 10 and needed five more birdies over the previous eight holes to provide a massive predicament to Kenyon, as he ran up a triple-bogey seven, but his struggle unravelled at the 13th.
While Noren at least enjoyed a finish to a day on his return to the spectacle of Europes thumping win over Team USA last year smith erred in the 17th and parred the last to rounded off a 68.
Noren pinpointed the last putt of that competition from 50 feet to spark scenes of wild jubilation, but the Swede was much less sweet when he slipped into three with five to play with before lifting his spirit when he pitched in for a morale-boosting eagle at the long run.
