Deidre could be supplemented for Arc
Group One winner Deirdre could yet be supplemented for next month Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in ParisLongchamp.
The prestigious mile-and-a-half decoration on October 6 is currently one of three Group One goals under consideration for the Mitsuru Hashida-trained five-year-old – along with all the Qipco Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes and the Qipco Champion Stakes in the month.
After springing a surprise at the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood in her penultimate beginning, and just a second in Britain following her highly successful career in Japan and internationally, the girl of Harbinger followed up with a staying-on fourth at the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday.
Assistant coach Yoshitake Hashida explained:”I believe she’s the 2 choices of going to Ascot, which I believe would be more probable to your Champion Stakes, or even the Arc. Tomorrow she will go back to Newmarket – then we’ll see.
“We may go have a look at the track in Longchamp at the weekend, before potentially running her at the Arc.
“She wants supplementing for your Arc, so It’s a large decision for the Operator.”
According to Deirdre functionality, Hashida considers the result in Ireland might have been different had she been awarded a run.
He added:”She had a bit of awful luck in the race, however, the horse is quite genuine.
“We appreciate having a fantastic mare. I believe the most frustrated person was (jockey) Oisin Murphy.”
Since finishing fourth in the 2017 Japanese Oaks, deirdre has not raced over a mile and a half, but the measure upward in trip isn’t anticipated to become a problem in case the Arc plan materialise.
Hashida included:”Since she’s used to a mile and a quarter, we could maintain some mile and a quarter.
“I think if the owner decides to return around a mile and a half to the Arc, however, that she will cover it”
