Pet retailers are to be banned from purchasing kittens and kittens from the federal government in a crack down directed toward stopping pet farming.
Third party earnings of dogs or cats under six weeks old will likely be banned, meaning customers might need to cope directly with the breeder or an authorised rehoming centre.
The movement, announced by the the Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), follows public consultation that found 95 percent of the public encouraged for such a ban.
It follows laws that are new, that came in force on 1 October, which banned authorized sellers from coping in puppies and kittens under 8 months old.
Before this calendar year, a petition backing the Lucy’s Legislation campaign to halt to sales by third-party industrial traders has been signed by 150,000 people and triggered by an argument in parliament.
Defra said the banning, that can be launched”when parliamentary time allows” into 20-19, would ensure it is tougher for”high-volume, low-welfare breeders” to use.
Animal welfare ministry David Rutley, who declared the ban on Sunday, paid tribute to the Lucy’s Law campaign, declaring the government was devoted to making sure”that the country’s much-loved pets make the right start in living”.
He explained”I urge anyone who’s considering purchasing a puppy, or some other puppy, now of the year to pause and consider thoroughly before doing so.”
