Despite his team’s varying degrees of success over the years, Matthew Stafford hasn’t allowed anything to keep him off the field. Not even a broken back.
On the most recent edition of his podcast using WJR host Ken Brown, Detroit Lions reporter Mike O’Hara shown some details about the obscure harm the quarterback sustained toward the conclusion of this 2018 campaign.
“He is durable but does perform with injuries. As it turns out, he had broken bones in his back,” O’Hara told Brown. After being requested by Brown if he was likely to say that, O’Hara responded,”It’s been reported.”
O’Hara’s report has been confirmed by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, who provided more remark on the situation.Up for this stage, the only information the public had to go off of seeing Stafford’s ailment was that he suffered the injury after being tackled 11 times against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 13. Prior to this, he suffered a chest injury in Week 1 against the New York Jets and a pinky injury against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8.
Stafford was able to remain in the lineup for its final four games, completing 75 of his own 116 pass efforts for 691 yards and three touchdowns, to expand his consecutive start streak to 128 in a row, the sixth-longest series in NFL history.
In all, 2018 proved to be a down year for its 10-year veteran. Besides the Lions (6-10) missing the playoffs for the seventh time during his stint, he ended with a career-low 3,777 total passing yards, 21 TDs — the second-fewest of his career — also ranked 25th in passer rating (89.9).
