England captain Joe Root stated levelling the Ashes at 2-2 round off a summer that has been a”tremendous success” for English cricket.

“I am distressed to carry this team forward,” he explained. “I am in a very privileged position to become captain of the Test team and I will do everything I can to make us quite well prepared for going down there and doing something really particular.”
England all-rounder Ben Stokes:”This was a bizarre feeling in the end. We are satisfied with what we managed to perform in this game but we couldn’t win the Ashes.
“In the start of summer everybody was so excited with what we had beforehand, now the summer came to a conclusion it’s been fantastic to be part of as an individual participant.
“I don’t think you can ever return and ask what if we’d done this or done different. It’s been and that is showed at the final result. I think it’s a fair result between competitive teams since Ashes cricket constantly is and everybody else was treated to a excellent series and two equally matched.
“I will return Headingley in a couple of years’ time with fond memories probably, but I’d swap it winning for your Ashes still.”
Asked if Joe Root is the Ideal person to take England forward, Stokes explained:”100 percent”

His staff were gone at 122-8 and the way Peter Siddle was shepherded by him and played with control. That was one of the Test innings. He’s really been a pleasure to watch.
“With England, I think we might observe a shift in strategy the Test team takes. Perhaps the players will overlook the games that are one-day if they’re playing with all three formats. The Evaluation team requires a little bit of TLC and Joe Root would be the skipper to take them forward.”
